Lane in the Woods is a family farm- created, crafted and managed by  the Lane family who moved to Madison County in 2009.  They bought land and a couple cows and began their dream of “living off the land.”
Lane in the Woods has sold raw milk to the Marshall and Asheville areas since 2010 (known as Homemade in Marshall) and are now transforming their precious milk into artisan    cheese that can only be produced from the 6 cows grazing off Panhandle creek in Madison County.
Call to inquire about their products.  Perhaps tours will be offered in the future.

The French Broad Creamery is the farmstead cheese arm of Mount Gilead Farm, in Leicester, North Carolina, about 20 minutes northwest of Asheville. The Russell family is dedicated to restoring and improving the fifty acres of hay fields, pastures, waterways and woods that make up the farm. The creamery produces fresh, bloomy rind, and aged goat cheeses from the milk of our herd of floppy-eared Nubians, prima-donna Saanens, and even-tempered Alpines. We love what we are doing on our little corner of God's great earth, and are happy to share it with visitors. The farm is open from dawn to dusk. Call ahead to schedule a formal tour. During kidding season (March to June) we offer regularly scheduled farm tours, including bottle-feeding baby goats and cheese tasting. Visit our website to schedule those. The farm store stocks our cheeses, as well as goat soaps, cajeta (a Mexican, goat-milk caramel sauce), farm-fresh eggs, local pottery and more.
